New Class on Contemplative Prayer

Contemplative Prayer, also known as Centering Prayer, Meditation, or Prayer of the Heart will soon be a part of St. Andrew's.   Beginning on March 3, 2004 Fr. Bob will offer a class on praying this ancient Christian discipline of prayer.  We will meet for one and a half hours beginning at 7:00 p.m. each

Wednesday through the season of Lent.  For those who wish to continue, we will meet regularly after Easter.  Although we will meet once a week in class, the class will also require some work each day on the part of each participant.  This is a discipline that can be practiced by anyone of any age, so it is open to all

who are willing to commit to the six weeks of class.  If you are interested, Fr. Bob will meet with anyone who wishes to know more about the class after church any Sunday in February.  Alternatively, you may call or stop by the church to inquire more about it.

Search Committee Report, Coralee Petersen

The search committee first met Jan 11, 2004.  Present were : Randy Belton, Pat Coleman; Sukie Hohl, Sue Holz, Sam McClure, Judy Martin,  Claudie Meyer, and Coralee Petersen.  Fred Petersen (senior warden) and Rev Bob Spencer were also present as guests/advisors.
We discussed our need to "grieve" over our loss of Mary. The consensus of the members present, all of whom had had input and commentary from other church members, was that we are ready to move on. Mary's efforts to prepare us, and our final service with her were very effective in moving us through the grieving process. With regard to finding a new priest for St Andrew's, it is our desire to expedite the process and minimize the time frame, while still doing a thorough and thoughtful job.
The procedure for calling a priest was briefly reviewed, and dates were discussed for inviting Rev. Gus Salbador (diocesan  deployment officer) to come and do a workshop with us. We have tentative plans for him to come February 27-28.  The committee will be scheduling another meeting before then to look at our goals (from our goal-setting process of 1½ years ago) and a parish profile form.  If you have any ideas or suggestions for us, please speak to one of the members.
The committee asked me to serve as chair, and I have agreed to do so.
